Studio: Painting on Plinth Development

Reflections:

  • The heavy structure gel worked really well to create these mountain like mounds. I still used the metal and the ink roller to apply the paint, and the process was material led, taking a Richter style approach about knowing when something is finished.
  • I became engrossed with the texture that I could create here, creating these mounds and moulding them as though they were sculpture.
  • Using acrylic paint instead of using plaster or something that is used to create sculptural texture, explores the overlap between painting and sculpture. If I was not using paint, then this piece would be completely a sculpture.

Further Testing with White Spray Paint:

  • A subtle yet clear textural detail. I like the idea of making the whole thing a glossy white rather than the range of blues that it is at the moment. I have an urge to just spray it all white as I feel like it would say much more.
