- The first board I did was a side panel. Using the tones found within the mild steel manipulation pieces, I used the ink roller and aluminium bracket to scrape paint over eachtoher, and mixed in the paint thickener too which is why it turned out so textured.
Peer feedback:
- "The thick paint works better than the flatter samples. To improve it it needs some silver leaf or something to connect more with the metals."
Development:
- Adding in the silver leaf, and then working it in with the paint over the top.
- This is the most accurate way of adding the silver tone as silver paints and spray paint do not work for the same effect.
Reflection:
- My own reflection here is perhaps the colours are too overwhelming, or something isn't quite right about using the colours, or colour in general. Since the work is more about texture than colour maybe just using white paint with flecks of silver leaf could work more effectively, and this way the white would blend in with the wall when the pieces is mounted to it, making it more subtle.
- Further development will be to spray paint this side with gloss white, or carry on but using white acrylic paint and building layers of texture, while including the silver leaf.
Development/ Experiment with White Spray Paint:
- Gloss white spray paint over the top of thick acrylic sample. I like the way this looks, though it would need another coat of white.
- The lack of colour can sometimes say a lot more than presence of colour, and since the colour isn't as important as the texture in my plinth piece, it could do well to remove the colour aspect, and since plinths are usually white it would connect more with this too.
- The way I could add in the silver leaf to this could be to place the silver leaf on my fingers and trace the silver over the highest points of texture, using the fingers/ touch to reveal texture, connecting with the processes of sculpture more.
Adding silver:
- Although, it would be a shame to lose the colour and details in the colour on the plinth piece, something is drawing me to the use of white gloss paint instead, and I really think the more subtle colour would draw more attention to the textural detail.
