Studio: Plinth Painting

Another Layer of Paint:

Reflections:

  • I think this gloss white paint shows the texture more, and getting rid of the colour shows it as the medium it is, which is paint. Paint manipulated in ways that are unconventional to paints medium.
  • The context of this placed on a gallery wall will confuse the medium/context argument further.

Further Development:

  • To develop this piece further I need to add another layer of white acrylic paint over this, and then finally add the silver leaf.
  • By adding another layer of acrylic it will make the painting look more like a painting. If I could do this again I would have eliminated the aspect of colour in the first place and just used white acrylic, but then I wouldn't have learned through the process of doing.

Overall Reflection:

  • Once I got the plinth inside, I realised that it looked quite tacky and the gloss paint only enhanced the tackiness. It really didn't look aesthetically pleasing in anyway, and since my work focuses a lot on how the viewer perceives the work, I don't want to continue this painting.
  • The texture created could appear quite disgusting to the viewer rather than something that they would want to look at.
