Studio: Continuing Work On Mild Steel Welding + Feedback
Documentation/ Initial welding:
Peer Feedback:
- "Looks like a galaxy, quite cosmic, or melted metal or water."
- "You've come a long way since the exhibition in May, and it's working for you"
- "I would suggest to take a look at what you're creating from a distance every once in a while, just to see how the image looks on the other side and whether you need to change anything, or whether you really like how a certain area looks."
- "Also, I really like the plain steel on the back of the image, could you play around with leaving more gaps in the metal to see how these look? The two sides contrast well against each other."
- "Make sure you consider placement of this piece now, as we really like the side you're welding on as well, and if you put it on the wall you will be hiding all the details and this side of the process... maybe suspend it somehow so you can see both sides."
Development After Feedback:
Reflections
- The metal bends and distorts through the heat of welding, this will create a more sculptural approach. The argument of what medium this is here is strong - I am painting sculpture. Painting with a sculptural tool.
- Here, I have focused on including more gaps in the work to create the contrast between the plain metal, and the detailed metal.
- I will also consider the placement much more now, as I was going to have this on the wall, but since the feedback was so positive about the welded side, it would work better as both sides being exposed. I will try and suspend it in the middle of the gallery.
