Below is a video of the Process of my painting technique, using an ink roller:
Step by Step Photos of the Process:
- First, after painting the board black, I chose some light grey paint and applied it in sections all over the board using the ink roller, going from left to right and up and down the entire lengths of the board.
- Next, I overlaid a darker grey once the light grey had dried.
- The process now consisted of going back and forth with the colours of the paints, and the ink rolling technique, to decide how I liked it. Here I went back in with some more black to even out the board to make it more visually even with the colours.
- Finally I added a silver paint and using a mixture of techniques including rolling the end of the paint brush to create smaller details in-between the other colours.
Reflections:
- The process enabled me to go back and forth between the colours and styles, and I would go back in with different colours if I felt like the colour distribution was uneven.
- Using a consistent process of rolling the ink roller up and down and left and right enabled me to achieve an abstract yet consistent look for the painting.
- I really enjoyed the process of this painting and the way that it turned out. I feel a connection with Gerhard Richter's process and the way he has stated that he knows a painting is finished when he feels he can't go any further with it, and I felt the same way about this one.
Further Development:
- This painting could be done on a much larger scale, and I could try it on canvas too.
- I could try using other colours other than just monochrome.
- I could try incorporating it with my other idea of the metal frame wall piece.
