Studio: Final Touches to Mild Steel
Process Documentation:
Finally Finished:
Reflections:
- I listened to feedback and overall I thought it needed a bit more detail in it. I tried to add more blueish areas, and closed up some gaps. This added much more detail, and this 'details within the materials' is highly important within my work.
- It was important to leave some gaps in the work as this connects this piece to my other works (the floor painting and the silver leaf painting) all of which also reference Lynda Benglis' work upon reflection.
- I didn't stop this process until I was satisfied with the result. This process was very material based and I am surprised how much I enjoyed the working on this piece - and I can understand and relate to Lynda Benglis' comments about being 'at one with the material' and 'in conversation with the material'.
Hanging this Piece:
- Thinking about ways to hang this piece, Rob suggested cable wire which I think would work perfectly as I want a metal wire to hang it as it is in keeping with the metal look for my work. Also thinking back to the Collection Gallery Exhibition, where I used metal wire to suspend a cube, this worked better than something that was 'trying to look invisible but not' like fishing wire. Therefore, excentuating the metal aspect through hanging this piece is vital.
- Example of metal wire above.
- I am thinking about buying an even thicker wire to enhance the look more, but perhaps that would be too overpowering.
